Hey Guys ! Thank you for clicking on this post today. We are planning to do a “Skincare Do’s & Don’ts” Featuring a specific skincare item once in a while. We will be starting with one of the most important part of skincare that we often disregard.
We can not stress enough on, how important it is to use a Sunscreen! Using a Sunscreen helps maintain and heal your skin while also protecting it from potential dangers due to the sun!
Not only does using Sunscreens prevent potential risks of cancer it also helps you stay youthful for longer by preventing premature ageing due to sun exposure.
Sunscreens keep your skin protected and healthier by reducing the appearance of skin discolouration, sun burns, preventing ageing caused due to being exposed to the sun and also helps maintain an overall even skintone!
Here’s a couple of Do’s and Don’ts to keep in mind while using a Sunscreen.
It is absolutely important to not skip your Sunscreen anytime you step outside regardless of the weather, as long as there’s visible sunlight/sunrays in the sky skipping your Sunscreen is not an option.
Do not skip your Sunscreen on cloudy or winter days, just because you cannot see the sun doesn’t mean you are protected from the damage that the rays could cause!
Invest In a Broad Spectrum Sunscreen, both UVA & UVB rays are known to be cancer causing hence it is an absolute must to invest in a Sunscreen that offers protection from both the types of rays!
Just because you’ve darker skin doesn’t mean you could skip Sunscreen! Sunscreen is a must regardless of skintone and age.
Make sure to Purchase a Sunscreen that has an Spf Higher than 30 and is waterproof. Make sure to also choose a Broad Spectrum Sunscreen.
Relying on makeup is the biggest mistake most of us end up making. Makeup Products that include SPF don’t makeup for Sunscreen. Ratio of the actual product to The SPF is not enough to provide any sun protection. So make sure you Don’t skip your Sunscreen for a Foundation with “Spf”.
Do: Make sure to replace your Sunscreen if it’s past it’s expiry date or you notice any changes in the colour/consistency. (Unless it’s mentioned)
Don’t: Just because you don’t get Sunburnt easily doesn’t mean you can skip your Sunscreen. Sunburn is an immediate reaction where as sun damage takes place over time. In the long run it’s absolutely necessary to not skip your Sunscreen.
Make sure to use other forms of sun protection along with your Sunscreen. Which includes umbrellas, sunglasses, etc.
Do not skip your ears ! It’s often easy to forget the ears and the neck especially when you are short on time. Make sure you are applying sunscreen on all exposed areas of your skin.
Make sure you wear sunscreen at all times, even if you are at home or inside any place that gets hit by sunlight. Sunlight can affect you anywhere as long as it can reach you !
Keep your sunscreen out in a warm or hot environment for longer. We often end up keeping our sunscreen exposed to a warm environment when outside. This breaks down the ingredients and reduces the potency of the Sunscreen.
Store it in a cool place to avoid breaking down of ingredients and re-apply as often as you can.
Do not skip reapplication, especially if you sweat after application. It’s important to reapply your sunscreen once every 3 hours.
Choose a Sunscreen that you are comfortable with. Sunscreens can come in various forms which includes creams, lotions and sprays. Choosing a Sunscreen according to your skintype is a must. Most sunscreens have the skin type they cater mentioned on the packaging. So pick one that suits your needs.
Don’t just rely on one form of sunscreen. Especially if you use a spray sunscreen it’s easy to miss certain spots or miss a lot if it’s windy without even noticing! Using a cream sunscreen helps you protect your skin better due to the even application.
Invest in a good quality Sunscreen that uses good quality ingredients. It is absolutely important to know what ingredients go inside your sunscreen. Not every Sunscreen is of the best quality, pick one with ingredients that will stay on longer as it will help protect your skin better.
P.S: It doesn’t matter how good quality the sunscreen is make sure you reapply your sunscreen as often as you can!
•For acne prone skin, Choose a sunscreen specifically formulated for your skintype.
•Avoid Sunscreens with Vitamin A as it’s known to trigger growth of lesions on the skin under sunlight.
•Be careful when using a Sunscreen on a baby, make sure you discuss with a paediatrician and also do a small patch test for allergies.
•Sunscreens must be used by all regardless of gender and age.
That is all for today! Thank you so much for reading. Hope this post helps in making better decisions and choices. If there is a specific skincare item you want us to do our next Do’s and Don’ts feature make sure you let us know in the comments section.
